When it comes to portable power solutions, trailer mounted diesel generators are a top choice for many commercial and industrial applications. These robust units offer mobility, reliability, and versatility, making them ideal for various situations. In this article, we’ll discuss key aspects of trailer mounted diesel generators, including customization options, trailer specifications, and tips for choosing the right trailer for your generator.
Why Choose a Trailer Mounted Diesel Generator?
Trailer mounted diesel generators provide the convenience of mobility, allowing you to transport power wherever you need it. Whether it’s for construction sites, emergency power, or remote locations, these generators offer a reliable solution. Here are a few reasons to consider a trailer mounted diesel generator:
- Mobility: Easily transport your generator to different sites.
- Reliability: Diesel engines are known for their durability and efficiency.
- Versatility: Suitable for various applications, including military and commercial use.
Customization Options
One of the significant advantages of trailer mounted diesel generators is the ability to customize them to meet specific needs. Here are some common customization options:
- Fuel Tanks: Additional fuel tanks can be added to extend the runtime of your generator, ensuring longer periods of operation without the need for frequent refueling.
- Military Customizations: Generators can be outfitted with specific features to meet military standards, including camouflage paint, ruggedized components, and enhanced durability.
- DOT Approved: Ensure your trailer meets the Department of Transportation (DOT) standards for safe and legal transportation on public roads.
Understanding Trailer Specifications: GVWR and GAWR
When selecting a trailer for your diesel generator, it’s essential to understand two critical specifications: GVWR and GAWR.
- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): This is the maximum total weight that your trailer can safely carry, including the weight of the trailer itself, the generator, fuel, and any additional equipment. Choosing a trailer with a GVWR that exceeds the combined weight of all these elements is crucial to ensure safe operation.
- GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating): This refers to the maximum weight each axle of the trailer can support. It’s important to ensure that the combined GAWR of all axles meets or exceeds the total weight of the loaded trailer.
Tips for Choosing the Right Trailer for Your Generator
Selecting the right trailer for your diesel generator involves considering several factors to ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency. Here are some tips to guide you:
- Calculate Total Weight: Add up the weight of the generator, fuel, and any additional equipment to determine the total weight that the trailer needs to support.
- Check GVWR and GAWR: Ensure the trailer’s GVWR and GAWR are sufficient for the total weight.
- Consider Terrain: Think about where you’ll be using the generator. If you’ll be on rough terrain, opt for a trailer with enhanced suspension and larger wheels.
- Verify DOT Compliance: Ensure the trailer is DOT approved for road use to avoid any legal issues.
- Think About Customizations: Consider any additional customizations, like extra fuel tanks or military features, and ensure the trailer can accommodate these modifications.
Conclusion
Trailer mounted diesel generators offer a flexible and reliable power solution for a variety of applications. By understanding customization options, trailer specifications like GVWR and GAWR, and following tips for selecting the right trailer, you can ensure your generator is always ready to go wherever you need it.
