Tier 4 Generators are designed to meet or exceed the emissions standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), emitting fewer pollutants, such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. This makes tier 4 diesel generators a more environmentally friendly option compared to their lower tier counterparts. Additional benefits of installing Tier 4 generators include:

Locating the right Tier 4 Generator for your application can be a challenging task. Learn more about Americas Generators’ Tier 4 Final Diesel Generators by reading the answers to these common questions.
A Tier 4 generator refers to a type of diesel engine generator that meets the strict emission standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States. The Tier 4 Generator regulations were introduced in 2004, and the aim was to reduce the amount of harmful pollutants emitted by diesel engines.
Tier 4 diesel generators utilize advanced emission control technologies to reduce emissions. They are designed to be more fuel-efficient and produce less emissions than previous generator models, making them more environmentally friendly.
Tier 4 generators are commonly used in applications such as construction sites, data centers, hospitals, and other facilities where reliable power is critical. They are also used in off-grid locations, remote areas, and for emergency backup power.
Tier 4 Diesel Generators are available in a wide range of sizes depending on their intended use. For light commercial or residential applications a 13.5 kW Kubota Tier 4 Generator or a 50 kW John Deere Tier 4 Generator would be ideal. For mid-size to heavy industrial applications, Americas Generators offers Tier 4 Generators up to 1250kW, like our 350kW Scania Tier 4 Generator or the 1250 kW Volvo 40’ Twin Pack.
EPA Tier 4 refers to a set of emission standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for non-road diesel engines. These standards were phased in from 2008 to 2015 and aimed to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) from non-road diesel engines, such as those used in construction and agricultural equipment.
The Tier 4 standards represent a significant reduction in emissions compared to previous standards, requiring a 90% reduction in PM emissions and a 50% reduction in NOx emissions from the previous Tier 3 standards. The Tier 4 standards are divided into two stages: Tier 4 Interim, which applies to engines manufactured between 2008 and 2014, and Tier 4 Final, which applies to engines manufactured after 2014.
To comply with the Tier 4 standards, engine manufacturers have used a variety of technologies, including exhaust gas recirculation, diesel particulate filters, and selective catalytic reduction. These technologies help to reduce emissions while maintaining or improving engine performance.
