Americas Generators is not just a leader in the power generation industry; it’s a company built on the dedication, expertise, and resilience of veterans who have served their country with honor. Our team includes remarkable individuals whose military backgrounds have equipped them with unique skills and a commitment to excellence. Here, we highlight the distinguished careers of four key members of our team: Brian Tienhaara, Saul Urrutia, Stephen Hix, and our founder, David Johnston.

Brian Tienhaara: A Veteran Dedicated to Power Generation

Brian Tienhaara enlisted in the US Navy in 1986 at the age of 24. He initially worked with radar and communication equipment before becoming a Gas Turbine Electrician, serving on the USS Monterey during the Gulf War’s Desert Storm/Desert Shield operations. After his discharge in 1993, Brian worked as a Generator Technician and Service Manager before joining Americas Generators in 2000 as Lead Technician and Service Manager. He later transitioned into administrative, technical support, and sales roles. Today, Brian continues to provide technical support while primarily working in sales, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the power generation field.

Saul Urrutia: From Radar Control to Power Generation

Saul Urrutia’s journey began in the USAF as a Radar Controller, serving six years with assignments in Alaska and Thule, Greenland. After his military service, he transitioned to a successful sales career, spending 17 years in the Automotive Industry. He then moved into the Power Generation Industry, joining Americas Generators as a key team member in Miami. Saul leverages his extensive experience to enhance our sales and technical support capabilities.

Stephen Hix: A Legacy of Secure Communications

Stephen Hix brings over 30 years of IT expertise to Americas Generators. His career began in 1988 as the technical lead for integrating GPS into the United States Air Force (USAF), where he oversaw advanced equipment research and development. As a Senior Radio Technician, Stephen supported secure communications for high-profile missions, including those of the President and Vice President. After transitioning to the private sector, he worked in network surveillance and data testing before joining Americas Generators in 2022 as an IT Analyst. Stephen manages our private network and Microsoft 365 services, bringing exceptional technical expertise and a commitment to secure communication systems.

David Johnston: A Visionary Leader and Speed Record Holder

David Johnston moved from Buffalo, NY, to South Florida in 1985 after four years in the Navy and twenty years in the motorcycle and snowmobile business, concurrently managing ten years in the restaurant business. Over the next five years, David worked as a yacht broker and developed a system for identifying and categorizing industrial equipment for resale. Recognizing the vast market for industrial generators, he incorporated Americas Generators in 1994 with a unique business model that has driven the company’s growth over the last 30 years. David also holds a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats, achieving 182 MPH in a vintage Indy car.

At Americas Generators, we are proud to have such dedicated and experienced veterans on our team. Their military backgrounds have instilled in them a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to thrive in challenging environments. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain grateful for the unique contributions of Brian Tienhaara, Saul Urrutia, Stephen Hix, and David Johnston, whose combined efforts make Americas Generators a leader in the power generation industry.
