Thank You for a Wonderful 2016
December 26, 2016
The holiday season is demanding with people laser-focused on buying gifts and preparing for festivities. As a result, they often put disaster preparedness on the back burner. Winter is a critical time that calls for safety preparations. Why not make critical emergency items part of the holiday by giving them as gifts?
Holiday Gifts
Consider adding to your gift list some items that people will need during winter storms and other weather disturbances. A weather radio is a very useful gift, especially for people living in areas that frequently experience winter storms. One option is a radio developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that broadcasts National Weather Service forecasts and severe weather warnings 24/7. Flash lights and long-burning emergency candles are also great gifts as is a solar charging unit that will power up devices even when electricity is not available.
Generator Sets
One of the best holiday gifts you can give a family that lives in an area that is prone to power outages is a generator set. A generator set can serve as an emergency backup source of power. Consider a generator that is capable of producing at least 4,000 to 5,000 watts of power. You can ask an electrician to estimate how much power the family on your gift list will need. A portable generator is more cost effective than the stationary standby generators.
A gift of a generator set is one that will last for many years. The recipients of the gift will always remember you, especially during power outages caused by winter’s inclement weather. A generator set is the best backup-heating source available when the regular power supply fails. When power outages occur during the coldest days of winter, a backup generator can be a lifesaving piece of equipment.
A generator set could also save your basement from flooding if the regular power supply is turned off in the middle of a storm. When this occurs, the sump pump may also turn off, which could lead to flooding. Water damage can cost a small fortune to remediate.
A generator set can keep the basic appliances at home running even during power interruption at the height of a storm. Keeping the fridge running can prevent food spoilage.
Give the gift of safety and preparedness this holiday season with a generator set.
