Get Prepared for Winter

Thanks for Another Great Year
December 27, 2017
The holiday season is the time for gift giving. People give presents to family members, relatives, friends and co-workers. The big question, however, is which gifts to buy.
This year, consider giving the gift of preparedness with items to keep people safe no matter what the weather brings. Storms and blizzards are common during the winter season with ensuing power outages. An outage occurring in the midst of a winter storm, when the temperature dips below the freezing point, could make life miserable and risky. You can give a gift that will help people stay connected and comfortable in the midst of winter storms.
People will appreciate a weather radio that will keep them updated on the latest weather warnings and forecasts from the National Weather Service. They can listen to periodic announcements through the network of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Another type of gift that will be useful during winter storms is a solar charging unit that can power electronic devices such as cell phones.
If you’re willing to spend a little more money, you could also give an emergency generator set. There are many diesel power generators for salethat make perfect gifts for those living in storm-prone areas. A generator set is a lifesaver in severe weather when power and heat sources are unavailable.
The generator set could keep heaters running. It could also save your basement from flooding by keeping the sump pump in operation. When the power supply is interrupted, the sump pump that drains the water in the basement will stop working, resulting in flooding. With an emergency generator, your sump pump will continue to do its job and spare you the cost of flood cleanup.
No one wants to be caught off guard. Gifts of preparedness will help your loved ones be ready for anything. They will show that you care and help keep people safe all winter long.
