Armed Forces Day

Posted in: Diesel Generators Latest News

The Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of May. The celebration honors the men and women of the country’s armed services who serve in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The celebration includes military parades, multi-service military displays, and other activities to teach the people about the country’s armed forces.

Military Displays

Armed Forces Day is celebrated in different cities across the country, featuring parades and military displays. Tanks, armored personnel carriers, and other military vehicles are on display to be appreciated by the population. Ships and airplanes are also displayed at different ports and air force bases throughout the country.

Military Power Generators

At Americas Generators, we love all things power. So, let’s talk about what powers our military. Armed Forces Day celebrations also feature different power generators used by the Armed Forces at different military installations and camps throughout the world. Since the different units of the military are constantly on the move, they must use generators that are both powerful and mobile. Some gas-powered and diesel generators used in the military may include the following:

  • 5 KW Diesel Generator – This generator runs on heating oil and produces 120/240 volts of electricity for different power needs in military camps.
  • Hercules 4A084-3 Gas Engine – This air-cooled, alternating current generator is powered by a 4-cylinder engine that produces 120/208 power.
  • MEP-804A Tactical Quiet Military Diesel Generator – A trailer-mounted generator produces 15KW of electricity.

Gas and diesel generators aren’t the only sources of power that the military uses. Here are some other technologies that the military has used to generate power.

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells – The US Armed Forces has deployed 1.6-megawatt solid oxide fuel cells to different facilities across the country and abroad. Each unit has a power-generating capacity equivalent to powering more than 1,000 homes. These fuel cells can eliminate the need for costly electrical transmission lines from power grids as power is generated on-site.
  • Advanced Biofuels – A project of the US Navy, the development of advanced biofuels aims to cut the dependence of fossil oil on ships, planes, and vehicles and bolster the Navy’s energy security. The program calls for a large-scale replacement of the use of petroleum in the Navy’s day-to-day missions with more economical biofuel. Starting this year, 2016, four companies were contracted to produce 170 million gallons of military-compatible biofuel at a price much lower than the current price per gallon of petroleum-based fuel. The biofuel replacement in the military is projected to generate more than 50% fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Solar Energy – The US Army has teamed up with private contractors to install solar design services in different Army bases throughout the country. The project aims to supply the Army with electricity from on-site renewable sources, moving towards the federal goal for renewable energy for armed services.
  • Wind Power – The first Air Force wind project was installed in Wyoming’s F.E. Warren Air Force Base. It is expected to save over $3 million in the base’s energy cost for 20 years. Wind power projects to generate electricity have also been started at different bases, such as Cape Cod Air Force Station, the City Long Range Radar Station in Alaska, and the US Navy Base in San Clemente Island, California.
